We are continuing our Fall ten-week series through Romans 1-7, Paul’s letter to the Romans—one of the richest and most foundational books of the Bible, exploring the power of the gospel and the grace of God revealed in Jesus Christ. Are you new to our church or interested in learning more about who we are? Join us for our next Newcomers' Lunch on September 27th at noon in the Fireside Room. You'll have an opportunity to meet our pastors, connect with others, and learn more about our church and its mission. Lunch will be provided. Everyone is welcome! We'd love to see you there!

Our Nominating Committee will soon begin seeking candidates to serve as elders and deacons in the coming year. Please prayerfully consider who in our congregation might be well suited for these important roles, it may even be you! The open positions needed for Elder are Family/Children, Membership, Facilities, and Worship. Deacon positions needed are: College/Military, Home Communion, Memorial Receptions, and Health. We want to support you as parents by taking care of your kids for a few hours! Drop off at 5pm, pick up at 8pm, and let us take care of the rest! Just $20/family! Dinner is provided.

Moms with kids of all ages are invited to join together for a time of fellowship, study, and celebration on Wednesday, September 30th from 9-10:30am in the Patio Room. Childcare is available. 

This week's choral anthem is arranged from a modern worship piece entitled, "We Choose to Bow," with words and music written by Dan Adler. Worship, according to the dictionary means "to ascribe worth to, to bow down or give homage to." As Christians, we choose to bow down to God in a world that often worships and values other things.                         
We welcome anyone who loves to sing to join us - in two ways:
1.  Chancel Choir: Sings praises to the Lord every Sunday. Rehearsals are Thursdays, at 7pm, and you are welcome at any time.
2.  Festival Choir: A shorter commitment and lots of fun festive music! Join us just for the Christmas season community choir. Rehearsal Thursday from 7-8pm with a special rehearsal this Saturday morning, September 26th at 9am.

What happens on the First Friday of each month? GAME NIGHT! Come join us for fun, fellowship, and games in the Fireside Room at 6:30pm.

Fall into Bunco! All ladies are welcome to attend on Friday, October 9th at 6pm in Zirbel Hall. Cost is $15 which includes dinner and dessert. Sign up at the Women's Ministry table on the Plaza. 

Join us on Wednesday, September 30th at 4:45pm in the Choir Room for "Aging with Grace," led by Diane Wood. How we can flourish in a culture that worships youth with no wrinkles! The Bible teaches us by story and example that aging can be a gift of God and gray hair and wrinkles can be badges of honor. We'll look at a few stories, both Biblical and modern, where God's gift of years can teach us how to carry on in ways that honor Him. Come, bring a friend, stay for dinner!

We are off to explore the new SoFi Stadium with an exclusive behind the scenes tour on Thursday, October 15th from 9:30-1:30pm. We will take a look at the luxury suites, the owners club, private VIP lounges as well as the locker rooms of the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers. Our time will include a chance to walk through the tunnel onto the playing field. Please wear comfortable walking shoes for this event. Large bags and purses are prohibited, please use a clear plastic bag or small clutch purse. We will have a "stadium lunch" before boarding our coach to return to church. Cost: $65.00 per person. Please reserve your spot and pay at the Senior Ministry table on the Plaza. 

Join us to discuss two good books! On October 10th - Virgil Wander by Enger, and November 14th -Astral Library by Kate Quinn. We meet in the Fireside Room at 9:30am on the second Saturday of each month. Come early for coffee and conversation. 

As believers, we do not live on this earth alone. We have God, the Holy Spirit, and one another. We have each other to love and encourage. "Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds...encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near." - Hebrews 10:23-25. The Deacons at Good Shepherd support the administration of encouragement. The Deacon of Communication is a position who encourages people who are not presently in our area. It is to college and military members connected to our body of believers. This position writes/texts encouragement when believers are away.

Do you have a loved one with mental illness? This group is for you! You will receive encouragement, discover that you are not alone in this challenge, and find new resources to help you cope. Meetings are on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 7-8:30pm in the Fireside Room. The next meeting is on October 8th. Questions? Contact Debbie O'Dell at debodell51@gmail.com.

A Storytellers Tea, a conversation with Paul Williams, will be held on Saturday, October 10th from 2-4pm. More details available at the table on the Plaza.

Hoag Hospital has had a change in their policies, and we will not be able to hold our clinic as scheduled this year. You are encouraged to receive your vaccination this year through your healthcare provider, participating pharmacies, community clinics, or public health vaccination programs.
