Pastor's Note | Saturday, February 7th

1

It was a very significant evening.

I’m referring to Wednesday, January 28th and our Annual Congregational Meeting.

First of all, I would like to say “Thank You” to all who were able to attend. Second, if you were at the meeting you know there was a definitive experience of the presence of God. And finally, by the vote to extend a call to Rev. Curtis Bronzan to serve as the next pastor of Good Shepherd, this congregation spoke a powerful word of affirmation.

The well-known reformer, John Calvin, was emphatic about the fact God speaks through the Bible - the written word of God, through preaching – the word proclaimed, through the sacraments – the word enacted, and through the voice of the congregation. Clearly we experienced this kind of “congregation-speaking moment” through the words expressed during the discussion of extending this call and through the vote to do so.

Thank you for listening for and hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit and acting on what was heard by overwhelmingly voting to extend this call to Curtis.

We are now in a period of transition. Please pray for a number of transition-related items. Pray for the work of the Session-appointed Vision Task Group as it seeks to establish a clear vision for the future of Good Shepherd. Pray for Curtis and me as we continue to transition the multitude of responsibilities he will continue to assume. Pray for our Session to be confident that God is leading this transition – to not be anxious or afraid but trust in the power of our risen Lord who goes before us. Pray for a oneness of mind among Pastors, Session and Congregation – we are called to be the Body of Christ in this place.

Let’s be a Body that is together and moving in the same direction so that many will be blessed through this church with the joy of being Jesus’ disciples.
