Picnics and Cartoons

Like many children I enjoyed watching the Hanna-Barbera cartoons: Scooby-Doo, Tom & Jerry, The Jetsons, The Flintstones...they were all Saturday morning favorites. (They're still rather fun to watch today, especially Tom & Jerry.)

And as we prepare for our Church Family Picnic on Sunday, June 11th, I'm reminded of another Hanna-Barbera cartoon, Yogi Bear. Yogi loved "pic-a-nic baskets" and always had a scheme to get them. ("I'm smarter than the av-er-age bear, Boo Boo.")

I imagine Yogi would really like In-N-Out burgers, too. That's what we'll be serving for dinner at our picnic. $5 will buy a hamburger, chips and a drink--even Yogi could afford that.

In addition to food we'll have group games like kickball, a water balloon toss, a bounce house, and even some chess boards set up. We've reserved part of the park for the evening so there will be plenty of space to set up chairs for chatting and blankets for napping.

Picnics, like watching cartoons, are more enjoyable with other people around. I'm certain that laughing and playing with a church family is part of what Jesus had in mind when he spoke about life that is full and abundant. (John 10:10)

So mark your calendars for June 11 and plan to join in from 4-7 PM at Rush Park!

As far as I know there aren't any bears in Rossmoor these days, so when we gather that evening we shouldn’t have to worry about guarding our food. At least not from bears. But maybe from my son, Wesley…he loves In-N-Out.

In the joy of Christ,

Pastor Paul
